A hike through the woods

The Tretstein waterfall – located in the pure and jungle-like woods of the Spessart – is just a short walk from tree house Hotel Seemuehle …

The Beach House

Our first few days on Fiji we stayed at the Beach House, a hostel on the south coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island. We hang out at the wonderful white sanded beach right in front of our bure (a Fijian beach hut), snorkeled in cristal clear water at high tide and enjoyed a Fiji Bitter beer at sunset. Unfortunately, the weather changed on the third day around midday and since then it hasn’t stopped raining.
So, what can we do on a rainy day? Sit at home?! Nope, go on a jungle trip to a hidden waterfall – that’s right. On this trip our guide (I really can’t remember his name but it was something like fijian George – let’s just call him George!) led us trough his so called “gift of God” and explained plants, trees and animals and what the people of Fiji use them for. As George told us the day before that we should wear hiking shoes we put on our normal sneakers and wondered why everyone else just wore flip-flops. We found out as we had to walk trough the first lil’ river, which was followed by several waterholes, ditches and even bigger rivers – the only thing left to do was taking of our shoes and walk barefeet…an awesome experience! Anyway, we finally reach the waterfall (during the walk my mind wandered back to the article about canibalism on Fiji in former times – I really don’t know why!) and jumped into the pond in front of it, climbed up and slide back down again. After some time George decided that it’s time to go back. Not having brought a towel (George’s answer to bringing a towel or not was ‘Nope, it just gets wet’) we put our clothes back on while still wearing our bathing suites – it really didn’t matter because by the time we arrived at the hostel you couldn’t tell anyway if we went swimming or hiking… but it was worth every single rain drop!

Backpacking tour & day trips

Some of the pictures below were taken on a daytrip to Ubud, a city right in the middle of Bali that is always worth a trip. You can visit the monkey forrest, a lot of small shops and the rice terraces around the city are beautiful, too.

The rest of the pictures are from our second week on Bali. We did a backpacking trip starting from Padang Bai to the Bratan temple - Lovina (no, we didn`t swim with the world famous and mentally disordered dolphins but we enjoyed watching the rats running around on the roof of our restaurant) - Gilimanuk (we took the ferry to Java and bought some Java coffee over there) – Kuta.

Kuta is perfect for shopping and surfing – if you`re talented! I watched a few dozend of those guys for almost an hour and only one of them was able to stand on his board for more than 5 seconds. But hey, isn`t it cool to walk around with your board on the beach? Probably I am just jealous because they are so much cooler than me ;-)

Be careful when you change money in Kuta on the street, most of the guys are cheaters. After the third try we finally found one guy who would not work with faked numbers, a manipulated calculator or something like that. If you want to buy something fancy, look for Balibong clothes (sometimes it`s BaLLibong) – the style is very close to Billabong but the name will remind you of your Bali vacation every time you wear it!
